A seventeen-year-old, Rio Ferdinand played just eleven games for the Cherries in what was then known as the Second Division, He is the current Manchester United captain and now due to John Terry’s infidelity, Rio will captain England at this years Fifa World Cup Finals.

When asked on his brief Bournemouth spell, Rio was full of praise for the South coast club – ‘One of the best things he (Harry Redknapp) ever did for me was to send me out on loan to Bournemouth. I wasn’t sure at the time but he stressed that it would be good for me and it was the turning point in my career.’

Rio Ferdinand has become one the finest centre halves this country has ever produced, having played 214 times for Manchester United, scoring 6 goals as well as earning 76 caps for England, scoring 3 goals.

England calling: Rio will captain England this summer

But Rio, best known for his jokes and ‘banter’, with the boy from Peckham even having his own wind up show in 2006,

Here, David Beckham gets ‘merked’ as Rio likes to call it, I wonder what Fabio Capello made of all this?
